Psalm Roar 2024

We hope you are looking forward to this event! Here are some practical instructions and information.

before the day

If you are able, please give some time to learning some psalms, or simply becoming familiar with the tunes. The page has been updated since you made your booking.

Click here for the psalm-learning page.

If you are new to singing in parts click HERE for a PDF (one side of A4) to give a basic introduction which I hope will help you!

what to bring

  • A water bottle - so you can take drinks while learning/singing.

  • Cash - if you are paying this way, or to make a donation to cover the cost of the Friday evening meal. We cannot take card payments. We do not want the cost to keep anyone away. Give what you can afford. If you are able to give more that means we can cover costs and make a small gift to those playing a large role on the day.

  • Packed lunch for the Saturday, but see below if you want to buy something locally.

Online payment: You can pay direct to our St George’s Bank Account. “PCC of St George’s Church”. 20-77-85 and 00692956 are the numbers you need. Please put “Psalm Roar” as a reference.

parking

There is free parking on local streets but spaces are very limited. If you do not mind walking a few minutes you could try the residential streets between Copthorne Road and Porthill Road. The best place to park is probably Frankwell Car Park (Pay and Display - information here). On the Friday evening, park just after 6pm for free parking. Map/directions on our ‘Find Us’ page including a diagram showing the short walk from the back corner of the car park to the church.

Do not park on the gravelled area to the right of the front of church. That is private land.

If you asked for priority parking, you have it. Park on the Vicarage drive which is just off St George’s Street, next to the East end of the church building.

friday evening extra

Food will be served from 6pm, and about 7pm we will Give Chants a Chance! If you said “not sure” on the booking form, but wish to come, please let us know by Thursday morning, 11am. If you have specific dietary requirements, please let us know. Please bring some cash and make a donation for the food (a couple of pounds per adult will suffice) as this is extra to the main Psalm Roar.

On the Psalm Learning Page, scroll down to the bottom to see some resources for Twelve-point-chanting as this is what we will be trying.

toilets

St George’s Church only has two toilets. During the Saturday lunchtime we will open up the Vicarage. To reduce queues during the breaktimes we suggest you might like to use the facilities when your singing part is not actively learning.

music

You will receive a booklet with the words for the unison psalms and with words and sheet music for the other psalms.
